President's Message

Welcome to HJS!

Although this year will be very different from any other, be assured that Hopewell Junior School is a great place! Together with staff and administration, the PTSO is committed to enriching the junior high experience for all of our students. I encourage you to get involved with the PTSO. It’s a great way to feel connected, make a difference, and get the inside scoop on what’s happening during your child’s day. Some ways to get involved are:

Join a PTSO meeting! Mr. Rouff, Mr. Cripe, and our faculty representative Ms. Parks attend the meetings to answer questions and keep us updated about school happenings.  Meetings are traditionally in the HJS Innovation Hub, but this year, we will be holding them via Zoom, at least at the start of the school year.  Check Mr. Rouff’s weekly TGIF email for the Zoom links.  Most meetings are on the second Monday of the month, September through May, at 6:30 pm, but check the schedule to be sure.  You can find the meeting schedule here: PTSO Meetings

Take on a leadership role!  Our open PTSO roles for 2020-21 are:

Conference Dinner Chair – HJS has four conference nights through the school year.  On these evenings, teachers don’t have time to get dinner between their work day and when conferences start, so the PTSO provides them with a meal.  The Conference Dinner Chair arranges these meals.  We have a budget for the main part of the meals, we seek restaurant donations and discounts to make the most of our money, and we seek parent donations for drinks and desserts.

Staff Appreciation Chair - We have the most amazing teachers and staff at HJS, and the PTSO loves to show them how much we appreciate them!  The Staff Appreciation Chair plans the events of Staff Appreciation Week in the spring (May 3-7) as well as any other staff appreciation they choose to do during the year (raffles, treats, etc.).

Restaurant Nights Chair – Our Restaurant Nights Chair works with local restaurants to set up several fundraising nights through the year on evenings that coordinate with the school and PTSO schedules.

Directory Chair – The Directory Chair downloads student information into directory format, prints directories, and distributes paper and electronic directories as requested.  Almost all the work is in the early fall.

Volunteer at our events!  We aren’t sure what volunteering will look like this year, but we traditionally need help through the year at PTSO activities like our fundraising events, After-School Dances, Community Service Fair, Field Day, and more.  Look for Sign-Up Geniuses through the year and help when you can.

Join our Facebook Group!  Search “Hopewell Jr. PTSO & Parents” and join to stay connected, see pictures, ask questions, and get information about upcoming events.  You don’t have to be actively involved with the PTSO to join.

Donate to the PTSO!  Membership in the HJS PTSO is free for the 2020-21 school year, but we happily accept donations.  We expect fundraising will be difficult for us this year, but we still want to do great things for the school.  Some of the things we have done with our funds over the past year include buying new picnic tables for the front lawn, renovating the staff lounge, buying needed band and art supplies, installing new signs over the stage in the gym and in the cafeteria, installing full-length mirrors in the locker rooms, and adding a water bottle filler to our lobby water fountain.  Donations can be marked “PTSO” and brought to the school office or mailed to the school at 8200 Cox Rd.

We are going to be figuring things out together this year.  Join us to stay connected!  Learn more about PTSO by contacting me any time at hjsptso@gmail.com or
